Reviews of the Understanding & Applying the Aged Care Quality Standards Course

It was incredibly interesting to hear from someone who had worked on both sides of the sector – as a provider and a validator and to hear the requirements from her perspective.

– Kelley

Pam is always passionate with her extensive knowledge of the Aged Care Sector. It was very informative and a great course.

– Lyndy

Pam’s knowledge is very extensive, easy to understand, with a wealth of information provided.  I now have a much clearer understanding of the Aged Care Quality Standards.

– Anita

An excellent presentation, very engaging, interactive and easy to listen to. The session showed me that my facility isn’t doing things correctly.

– Julia

Why Pam thinks all Nurses should do this course

I’ve been in the industry for many years and I’ve witnessed all of the changes that have applied to the Aged Care sector over the last 30 years, including the implementation of the changes to the outcome standards that are now known as quality standards. I’ve worked as a residential care manager for LASA for 10 years run my own consultancy business for the past eight and been involved in a wide range of activities within and for the industry. This includes working as an advisor, usually when a service has been found to be non-compliant with various areas of the standards, and working with the service to overturn noncompliance and have sanctions removed. A recurring theme has been that although everyone claims to know the standards, it’s apparent that additional and ongoing training is required. Each of the standards has very specific and measurable requirement. It is critically important that everyone from board members to all employees understand their responsibilities in this regard.”

This course is for:

  • Members of the board as the Commission can actually invite themselves to a board meeting to ask the board members about what they understand of the standards
  • All care staff, hospitality staff, cleaners, maintenance staff, contractors, everyone has a role to play in understanding the standards and providing Consumer Directed Care
  • Orientation of new staff
  • Annual refresher training of all staff
  • Remedial training as soon as gaps are identified – that can be while an audit team is on site, you can actually start working on the fix at that stage
  • Preparing responses to the quality and Standards Agency reports where non-compliance has been found
