This session explores the relevance of female age on fertility, the relevance of male age on fertility and its impact on numbers and quality of sperm and current modes of thought that are believed to be able to reverse or minimise the impact of male age on fertility.

Course Content

Women have always been aware of their ‘biological clock’ – some more than others. Female Age plays a pivotal part in conception across the board and fertility treatment and IVF are no different. But what about the men – is the biological clock as important – emerging research would suggest yes.

Learning Outcomes

In this session you will:

  • Recognize the relevance of female age on fertility
  • Outline how female age is thought to specifically influence oocyte numbers, zona pellucida, oocyte quality/competence and endometrial factors 
  • Recognize the relevance of male age on fertility and its impact on numbers and quality of sperm
  • Discuss how the current modes of thought that are believed to be able to reverse or minimise the impact of male age on fertility
