Course Content

Clinical deterioration is a significant problem in acute care settings. Patient factors, duration of surgery and events in the Operating Room can be predictive of subsequent clinical deterioration in PACU.

Such information can assist perioperative critical thinking with respect to patient outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

In this session you will:

  • Gain an understanding of Nurses role in post-operative patient monitoring
  • Recognise how to identify and respond to clinical deterioration in surgical patients
  • Explore/Examine models to prevent clinical deterioration of patients in PACU
  • Review the importance of a collective team approach to preventing, recognizing and responding to clinical deterioration
