“Gain an understanding of the different types of stroke that may occur in children”
Course Content
‘In children, stroke is among the top ten causes of death, is more common than brain tumours and is the leading cause of hemiplegic cerebral palsy in term-born infants. Like adults ‘time is brain’ for children who suffer a stroke. Affected children carry resulting disabilities for a lifetime, at great cost to families, health services and most importantly the child’s future’.
This session explores the recommendations contained in the 2017 clinical guidelines developed by the ‘Australian Childhood Stroke Advisory Committee (ACSAC) in response to the needs of professionals and families for a consistent approach to childhood stroke in Australia. It includes more than 60 recommendations to help emergency staff and paediatricians in diagnosing and managing children with stroke upon arrival to the hospital.’
