Registered Nurses frequently feel vulnerable for the consequences of relying on unregistered staff and for the delegation of tasks to staff who have varied backgrounds and education. The rules of delegation are all very well but the workplace realities of limited staff, time and information can create anxiety.
The legal and professional expectations on the Nurse are clear. It is a matter of education and appropriate delegation that will ensure patient safety and nullify risks of miscommunication, misunderstanding and questions about the nurse’s responsibility.

- Learn how to articulate the role and responsibility of the unregulated and registered staff
- Gain an awareness of the employer’s and the RN’s responsibilities
- Recognise how to apply the rules of appropriate delegation when giving direction for patient care
- Acquire knowledge of how to implement protocols and policies that ensure patient needs and staff skills are matched
