Getting to know People we work with: Moving Beyond Assumptions

CPD Hours: 1
Current as at 11 July 2022
In this webinar, Dr McIntosh explores the power of assumptions and how they can determine the next step we make in the relationships we have with the other person. It can begin way before the shake of a hand, or the acknowledgement of the other person in the room.

“Explores the power of assumptions”

Course Content

In this webinar, Dr McIntosh explores the power of assumptions and how they can determine the next step we make in the relationships we have with the other person. The encounter with another person can begin way before the shake of a hand, or the acknowledgement of the other person in the room.

We may already be filled with assumptions based on experiences that colleagues share with us about the other person. Be that other person a client, colleague, peer or family member of a client. Do we move towards, against or away from the other person? What data are we using as we establish closeness or distance with the other person?

Learning Outcomes

In this session you will:

  • Gain an understanding of the power of “stories” to create bias within us towards others
  • Recognise the motivational influences within us individually that shape the relationships we have with other people
  • Explore models that can assist us “open up to” possibilities in our relationships with other people
  • Review our current relationships as a guide to future relationships
