Course Content

Nurses understand the impact of chronic pain on patients, their lifestyle and their families. The current definition of neuropathic pain used by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) is ‘pain caused by a lesion or disease of the somatosensory system’. This session reviews current diagnosis and treatment options in Australia.

  • Gain an understanding of the revised definition of neuropathic pain
  • Acquire knowledge regarding signs and symptoms associated with neuropathic pain
  • Identify  recommended tests to assist in diagnosing neuropathic pain
  • Gain an awareness of  the medications recommended to manage neuropathic pain in Australia
