“Lung sounds focusing on: crackles and wheezes”
Course Content
In this session, we are going to explore further advanced respiratory assessment. We will examine the significance of the two adventitious (abnormal) lung sounds focusing on: crackles and wheezes.
The presentation of a patient with mild to severe life-threatening anaphylaxis will be addressed. Various lung disorders will be outlines with assessment relating to lung auscultation. The aim of the session is to ensure the Nurse develops knowledge and gains confidence in their assessment skills.
Learning Outcomes
In this session you will:
- Discuss the significance of the two adventitious (abnormal) lung sounds
- Identify the significance of a post-operative patient who develops crackles and shortness of breath
- Discuss the assessment of a patient who is developing life-threatening anaphylaxis
- Relate the adventitious lung sounds to various lung disorders, such as pneumothorax and heart failure
