Pam has an extensive background in clinical nursing, education, and remote area Nursing both in Australia and overseas.
As a Lawyer and Clinician, this background is brought to her role as adjunct Lecturer to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as Aboriginal Health Workers.
Pam is a Barrister at Bar (NSW) and a published author and her book “Law for Student Nurses: applied principles” is now in its third edition.
Delegated powers created AHPRA under the National Law regulating health professionals. For Nurses and Midwives, the Nursing and Midwifery Board under AHPRA is directly responsible.
The NMBA’s function is to regulate the Nursing and Midwifery profession and set the standards for practice. This function is distinctly different from an employer’s responsibility to manage an individual’s fitness for employment through clinical governance mechanisms, such as credentialing. The formal process used by an employer aims to verify the qualifications, experience, professional standing and other relevant professional attributes of health practitioners for the purpose of forming a view about their competence, performance and professional suitability to provide safe, high-quality services in that facility.
AHPRA through the NMBA is responsible for responding to complaints and reports about a practitioner with the view to investigating and potentially removing that person from the register.
