Presenter Vicki Evans
Vicki Evans is Vice President of the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses. She has been involved in Neuroscience nursing in a variety of positions, both public and private, in Australia and the USA. She has completed tertiary studies in Management and Neuroscience and is employed as the Clinical Nurse Consultant: Neuroscience at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.
As the WFNN Vice President, she has also been the Scientific Chair for the WFNN Quadrennial Congress – Sydney 2001, Canada 2009, Japan 2013, Croatia 2017 and soon to be Darwin 2021. She was Editor of the Australasian Journal of Neuroscience for seven years; was awarded Life Membership of the Australasian Neuroscience Nurses Association and is author of the board game - Cerebral Tap ©.
Vicki is well published and her professional interests and research involves traumatic brain injury and concussion.
When a patient presents with a neurological deficit, changes or trauma, understanding which imaging would be useful in reaching a diagnosis is paramount. As nurses, we need to anticipate care in order to provide timely nursing interventions and so, having a basic understanding of neuroimaging options and the preparation required, helps one to provide efficient nursing care.
In this webinar we will consider the various types of scanning options available when the patient presents with a neurological injury – including CT, MRI and what to look for in these scans.
The importance of the role of the nurse’s observations with these patients will also be discussed.
