This session explores the aetiology, treatment options and preventative strategies for gout.

Course Content

'Gout is one of the most common inflammatory arthropathies. Studies suggest a prevalence of 1.7% in Australia and 2.7% in New Zealand, with higher rates in Maori and islander populations. 

The national health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in the USA and studies in New Zealand, China and the UK have shown that gout and hyperuricaemia are increasing in prevalence. 

This session explores the causes, current treatment options and preventative strategies.' This session uses resources from the Australian Prescriber and Arthritis Australia as the basis.
