Presenter Vicki Evans
Vicki Evans is Vice President of the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses. She has been involved in Neuroscience nursing in a variety of positions, both public and private, in Australia and the USA. She has completed tertiary studies in Management and Neuroscience and is employed as the Clinical Nurse Consultant: Neuroscience at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.
As the WFNN Vice President, she has also been the Scientific Chair for the WFNN Quadrennial Congress – Sydney 2001, Canada 2009, Japan 2013, Croatia 2017 and soon to be Darwin 2021. She was Editor of the Australasian Journal of Neuroscience for seven years; was awarded Life Membership of the Australasian Neuroscience Nurses Association and is author of the board game - Cerebral Tap ©.
Vicki is well published and her professional interests and research involves traumatic brain injury and concussion.
According to The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the traumatic brain injury rate (TBI) in Australia is 107 per 100 000 population with most studies suggesting that approximately 20% of these have sustained moderate or severe head injuries.
In this webinar we will consider what constitutes TBI – including extradural haemorrhage, subdural haemorrhage, skull fractures, diffuse axonal injury and concussion- and we will explore the need to review current procedures to improve patient outcomes.
Injuries highlighted in Formula 1 car racing and skiing will be discussed.
