The term ‘patient centred care’ has been the cornerstone of nursing care for many years now. However, in recent times, this concept has been further explored and developed into a model of care that places emphasis on the patient even more.

Now the National Safety and Quality Health Standards have highlighted the importance of partnering with consumers by including it as Standard Two. With this, a deeper understanding of what patient centred care is and how one can practice within this approach is even more important for the clinical nurse.
