Course Content
These guidelines have been developed as a part of the [email protected] project and are endorsed by Palliative Care Australia. They represent a consensus-based approach to the handling of palliative care medicines by community services, and consider jurisdictional legislative requirements, policies and guidelines across all Australian states and territories.
Many patients receiving palliative care wish to remain at home for as long as possible. To help achieve this aim, they need rapid access to medicines to provide symptom relief. If symptom relief is not achieved, patients may need to present to their local emergency department and this can result in unwanted admissions to acute care facilities and poor patient outcomes.
